In a war five military and one “civil” dimension must be considered: land, naval, air, cyber and space are the five military conflict dimensions; the civil society and the influence on the opinion on wars/conflicts are a not to underestimated one. Especially in hybrid warfare situations of the past like the illegal annexation of the Crimea by Russian troops, intelligence agencies have tried to influence public opinion by disinformation campaigns to justify own actions and reduce the credibility of statements of the opponent side.
Both warfare strategies as combat tactics of armed forces try to find a reliable way to act across the five warfare domains to reach the highest likelihood to win a battle or in best case the whole war. Strategic thinking requires to act interdisciplinary and tries to understand the complexities and requirements of other force domains involved in a mission or even theatre of war.
In a holistic approach all measures within a military doctrine can be seen, which are able to project power into foreign territory by breaking countermeasures as the availability to ensure a high-level Anti Access and Area Denial (A2/AD) capability.
Provider in military goods must understand one`s own product technical role within the spectrum of defense products used by friendly or potential enemy forces (and the capability to use them). Provider of NATO force shall keep the “Framework for NATO-industry engagement” and the Trans-Atlantic Defence technological and Industrial Cooperation (TADIC) methodology in mind.
